Citizens Police Academy
The Germantown Police Department Citizen Academy is a course designed to provide citizens with a better understanding of the operations of our police department. We encourage graduates to stay involved through an Alumni Group, our Citizens on Patrol program, and assist in identifying problems and solutions to crime issues that affect our community. Two sessions are held each year. Each session consists of 10 three-hour classes held once a week on Wednesday evenings, a Saturday morning at the firing range, and a graduation ceremony.
You must:
Opportunities for continued training and interaction with the Police Department are offered to academy graduates. We have numerous volunteer opportunities, including the Christmas Parade, our Neighbors Against Crime Night Out, and various other events.
“Citizens On Patrol” is a generic name used by many to describe a special group of Law Enforcement Volunteers. As the name implies, Citizens On Patrol are citizens who, after being screened, background checked, and trained by their local law enforcement agency, patrol their communities acting as "Eyes and Ears" for law enforcement. Our patrol volunteers assist in monitoring traffic areas that have become a concern or nuisance. Our Citizens On Patrol members are graduates of our Citizens Police Academy. We are very grateful for their assistance and commitment to helping us fulfill our mission of providing “Excellence in Police Service.”
