On-site Inspections: New Construction and Work in Unoccupied Buildings
Inspections of new and unoccupied buildings or structures (interior and exterior) will be conducted as requested provided that certain precautionary measures at the site are taken. As is standard practice, once an inspection request is made, Inspection Services staff will arrange a date and time for your inspection. In preparation for your inspection, please clear all unnecessary workers from the immediate area to be inspected. One site manager may accompany the inspector for the inspection if desired. All other individuals on site must remain a minimum of ten feet from the inspector at all times. Failure to clear the area needing inspection or maintain adequate distance from the inspector will result in a failed inspection and the inspector leaving the site immediately.
On-Site Inspections: Existing and Occupied Buildings
Inspections of existing and occupied buildings will be considered on a case-by-case basis in light of the need to protect the health & safety of both the property owner/occupants and Village staff. Where and when appropriate, inspections will be scheduled and conducted with priority given to those projects that are critical to the health and safety of those who occupy the building, and, those that are important to the functionality of the particular area or overall building.
Prior to your pre-arranged inspection date and time, the property owner needs to provide a safe means of access into the building, and, a clear travel path to the specific room or area to be inspected. One individual may accompany the inspector for the inspection if desired. All children, pets and other individuals not accompanying the inspector shall relocate to a separated room away from the inspector and area being inspected for the duration of the inspection. Failure to clear the area under construction or maintain adequate distance from the inspector may result in a failed inspection and the inspector leaving the site immediately.
Please be advised that the inspection of certain items, e.g. furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters, and other types of inspections, e.g. final inspection of a bath remodel or finished basement, may be deferred until normal inspection operations resume. In such cases, an affidavit of completion and code compliance signed by the contractor and/or property owner may be required to be submitted now with a follow-up inspection conducted at a future date.
